I've got a 5yr old and a 2yr old... both MAJOR petrolheads... and everytime we go into a department store they always find the matchbox/hotwheels stand and ask for something... and their selections are always very good...

My 5yr old loves the muscle cars... and has most of the '10 collection at home (though mine are driven and don't often stay in the box once we leave the store)... His favourites are a Chevrolet Chevelle (white with black cobra stripes) and a 60's Pontiac GTO with a small flamejob on the nose (aqua with purple flames)...
The 2 year old loves his Hummers (not really sure where he got hooked with them)... but also can pick out the Mustangs, Corvettes, and Lowriders as he calls them(anything with fins.. Caddy, Chevys, 50's cars)...

I was a big matchbox/hotwheels kid, and when they stay with my parents, they actually play with my old matchbox cars that my mum has kept... its incredible that the cars are built that well, and even though the rear axles are slightly bowed, and the paint is slightly worn... they are still in very good condition...

My PERSONAL favourite, was my little Matchbox KITT car (Knight Rider)... I played with that car so much that I actually wore the paint off the car on the roof from pushing it around (it has a baremetal roof, but still black on the bootlid and bonnet)...

Its amazing how much joy the kids can get from $2.00.... way better than a Mars Bar or a Kinder Surprise...
