That’s archaic thinking. To underestimate the Chinese would be a dangerous thing.

Lol some people have been watching too much rambo.
Can't organise? 30+ years of planning and following through got them to where they are today.
The fact "no friends" China isn't slowing down despite all the negative sentiments should be very worrying.

Re: Ambitious China

So China at it again trying to bully us, by investigated made up claims that we are flooding their market with cheap wine. Which is odd considering our wines are premium priced over there.

The irony of this is just off the scale, considering China has a long reputation of illegally dumping underpriced goods on foreign markets to destroy local producers, while being funded directly by the CCP. They have no ethics at all. Butthurt little bitches.

By some estimates, almost half of the world’s construction will take place in China in the coming decade.

Its not a surprise. Its funny watching all these people mis-directing their anger and outrage. We failed to plan and planned to fail. When was the last time we had a 10-20-30 year strategy that was actually followed through?!

No friends china is winning a lot of favours despite all their wrong doings. Some favours are being won very close to home, look at what they are doing in the Pacific Islands. A lot of their marketing has been to do with their climate change policies and funding. Those islanders are sh!t scared of sinking due to rising sea levels. What do we do? Successive aid cuts, and make jokes that it wont matter cos they'll be underwater soon, oh and we'll broadcast neighbours and masterchef to counter influence. Come on!

People talk about BRIs being a debt trap....the loans they offer are half the interest rates of world banks. That's why countries take them!

I named the Thread 'Ambitious China' for that reason, these people are on the move and as stated earlier, we cant even fix our tax system.

BRI is a major plan so they can build the 'Asian Century' as expected. I think Australia should position themselves to prosper along with them, sure as sh*t stinks, the U.S isn't to worried about anybody except themselves.
Of course dealing with 'them' we need to be smarter on the T+C's

Global Times is a bit like Sky News / Fox News on the Chinese side. I would read their content with a pinch of salt :lol

Having said that, its obvious. Germany didn't play ball with Trump's G7. Trump took huge offence to it, made some insulting remarks, then coincidentally withdraws troops. It is Germany's turn in the rotational Head of EU sitting. Next 6 months will be interesting. UK needs both US and China trade deals post Brexit.

Not sure if people missed it, for the first time in history, less than 50% of China Russia trade was done in USD. They are moving towards local currency and the euro. Soon, US sanctions will no longer be a weapon they can throw around.

Then we have China and Iran getting very cozy, and China helping the Saudis with nuclear programs in exchange for oil. The Saudis have reach everywhere, they are not an insignificant partner.

Things are changing very fast.

Re: Ambitious China

ffs... so much dribble on this subject.
If countries kept to themselves and didnt try to influence others there would be no problem, and the west has been great at influencing by force, other countries throughout time, the british empire, the merricants, the french, germans, romans way back in time.

Why bother worrying about wars and crap, if the bombing starts we all die, there is no victor, earth would be uninhabitable. Just having twice or ten times as many bombs as the other side wont stop your own country from being wiped of the map along with every other one involved in such a conflict, and the ones that arent obliterated become uninhabitable from the fallout.

Neither the Chinese or Russians want to see their people and countries in such a conflict anymore than the merricants, the constant hype and BS from certain agencies only serve to scare the population so they can be controlled and manipulated by those in power and with all the $$

Good on Kim keeping his nukes, its his way of keeping the merricants from ousting him the same way the did Sadam once he was no longer of any use or no longer following their line of action fighting a proxy war for the merricants against Iran who legitimately overthrew the Shah, the UK and merricant puppet.

The west should stop meddling in other countries affairs and get their own house in order, the merricant economy is crap and they just keep printing money to keep going with their massive debt they have, best country in the world? No chance, yet they buy into their own hype and nationalism, much the same way hitler started out...

Not sure about China helping Saudis with nuclear programs. US will not let it happen and probably sell something to Saudis first.

You wouldn't want your number one customer getting cosy with your enemy.

Re: Ambitious China

Public debt is always a big political issue.

Public debt to GDP ratio of US (103%) is not that bad in comparison, it is just huge but proportional to their economy.. Japan (267.5%), Greece, Italy top the list.

US debt to GDP is similar to UK & Canada. Nobody bags those counties as much as US.

Yes a lot of jungle in not important locations. A lot of real estate, tech and resources. They have a lot of boots on the ground, we won't make invasion a priority I guess
Different war compared to 50 years ago

China's main grain crops are rice, wheat, corn, soybeans and tuber crops. Paddy rice is the major grain crop in China
Cheek, poison all crop areas.

China is net importer of food and beverage products, soybeans accounted for 40% of the total value of F&B imports, among others, meat products, wines, spirits, fish products, confectionery and chocolates, bottled water, dairy products, and sugar are also common imported products......
Cheek, all Imports killed.

Wars are now fought with drones. Massive collateral damage, but out of sight out of mind. The person pressing the button is 10,000 miles away locked in a dark room pretending to play computer games.

A mate of mine has a brother who was a former SAS. He tells me during the Iraq war, they found 70% of soldiers on foot struggled to pull the trigger when it mattered most. And so the rise of drones. They knew it was less accurate, and were going to kill more innocent people, but it didn't matter. Humans didn't have an issue pulling the trigger when they were watching a computer screen.

The next big war will have a lot of collateral damage. Its also interesting to learn where that word comes from.

Looking at where things are today, I think an all out war is unlikely. Maybe skirmishes. Too many people will loose too much money, both sides. Unlike Iraq where everyone got rich.

Touched on a interesting point. If you do a bit of digging, you'll see South China Sea is a little more than just about fishing, or oil or gas. Where does all their trade shipments travel through? And who has military presence surrounding the region, with bases in Philippines, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Guam. If the south china sea is shut, who starves or goes broke?

I can't imagine why they would be pooing their pants and acting erratically.

Air superiority can’t win a war on its own.

Never has, never will.

At some stage you need boots on the ground.

Re: Ambitious China

The Last time the us military was let fully off the leash had pretty severe consequences for the people of Nagasaki and Hiroshima...

their politicians won’t allow that sort of thing to happen again.
The voting public won’t allow that to happen again.
Every war since then their military has had strict rules of engagement about limiting civilian casualties.
Korea and Vietnam showed how they were basically fighting with one hand behind their backs thanks to political control.
The eye watering civilian casualty count in the Middle East would pale in comparison if their military was told to just go in and get the job done.

They haven’t ‘won a war’ since then not because they can’t, it’s because the cost is too high.

Even the ‘shock and awe’ tactics of the Iraqi war was largely a hint of their capabilities, rather than their actual capabilities.

One piece of a puzzle.
One-third of the world's shipping passes through the sth china sea.
It wouldn't effect the western world no where as much compared to China.
Anyway no matter, you would bring another Chinese win perspective.
Fact of the matter is history shows, Germany once thought to rule the world.
Russia once thought so as well.
Back in the Roman days thought to be invinceable, Greeks, Egyptians etc...
Drones, buttons pressed from here from there, sooner or later the one who thinks will rule the world comes down, and that day will come no doubt about it.
